Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb 1st State of the City was held last night at the Case Western Reserve University's Maltz Performing Arts Center.

The event was hosted by the City Club of Cleveland.

Here are a few snapshots of his speech.

Steps toward police reform.

Protection for renters.

Changes to Cleveland Westside market.

Millions of dollars to reduce lead poisoning.

Efforts to boost the city's 48% vaccination rate.

More progressive greenhouse gas reduction goals.

Climate justice and neighborhood revitalization.

"15 minute city" locating necessities in a short walk.

Cleveland City Hall improvements, including quicker 311 response.

Number one priority - public safety

"Will leverage American Rescue Plan dollars to fully fund community violence prevention initiatives" 

He took aim at state lawmakers for recently passing a law that allows for concealed carry of guns

without a permit. "we need lawmakers, specifically Republic lawmakers in Columbus, to stop passing

dangerous gun laws that make our officers and residents less safe and start partnering with mayors to keep our cities safe."

Cleveland finances are "stable" 2022 budget which includes $62 million shortfall to be patched with federal aid.

 

"We must be the change and give ourselves the permission and courage to dream once again"
